Everyone Starts Somewhere!

Everyone at some point in life has had a moment where they saw an image of themselves that was not as aesthetically pleasing as they would hope to be. Take a glance to the far left and you will see the picture that smacked me right upside my face in March 2019.

I was ghastly appalled at what stared back at me. It hadn't gotten this bad already, right? It was just the camera angle? Had nothing to do with poor habits both physically and nutritionally, am I right?

Well, ladies and gents... what stared me back boldly was reality. Choices and habits had caught up to me and I was the only person steering this ship who could work to right the course. Knowledge is power.... one would think. I knew a change had to be made, but what? I let that pondering thought resonate for several more months before taking the first step in the right direction for improvement.

July 3, 2019 I faced one of my worst fears and walked into a place where I knew nobody other than my best friend I had convinced to go with me for the day. I walked into Burn Boot Camp. This place rocked my world. 45 minute HIIT style camps targeting different areas 6 days a week. I signed a contract and for the last 18 months it has been home. I've lost 36lbs, learned a lot more about nutrition, and gained many friends along the way. My Savage Race partners! While I am transitioning into a new phase of life which still involves fitness and wellness, it wont occur inside those walls anymore for the time being. But they are forever my TRIBE!

Stay tuned for more where I chronical the start until now... step by step and then hang on for the ride!   In the meantime, you can checkout my Instagram from the homepage link which contains images and clips of the journey so far.

Titan Run April 2021

This photo is a tail of when I completely ruptured my ACL on course and completed the remaining 2.5 miles of over/under/through obstacles because that was the only option. Looking back, I had no idea the extent to which I was injured...but I soon found out.

ACL Reconstruction

Nearly one month after injury, I was in the OR for complete reconstruction of my ACL, shaving of the back side of the patella, and cartilage clean up.  Two full months later I was able to return to work.  Fun Fact: Today is now November 27, 2021 and two weeks ago, exactly 6 months after injury... I was back on an obstacle course at my favorite race. SAVAGE RACE with my team and support from fellow savages from near and far with my daughter completing her first race. Its been a year of ups and downs. But one foot in front of the other and things will fall into place. I am finally back in a place to focus on fitness and my nutritional health as well. And It is a beautiful feeling.

These aren’t easy photos to post. There is a long road yet ahead on this journey, yet I am proud of what I accomplished by stepping out of my comfort zone. Because of that I will post these awfully unflattering photos captured at Deka by their photographers… and next year I will look back and compare how far I have come. Let them also serve as a reminder nobody is perfect and I don’t live a perfect IG life. Life is real and has its share of challenges… but this is called stepping up to the challenge and not giving up! I have a lot of work to do and I wont call it a new beginning but a continuance of a lifelong journey. It is easy to lose sight of goals in the daily hustle and bustle of life. But through completing this competition- the most difficult of all the Deka events as my first event, I was reminded of the sense of accomplishment and what it is like to have the goal and driving force to work towards. Here is to the upcoming year and what opportunities it may hold. Until next time, take care!
